The Ligonier Valley Boys Track and Field team beat Yough (87-63) and lost to Greensburg Central Catholic (99-51) on Wednesday afternoon. Congratulations to the following LV Boys who took overall first place in their events: John Jablunovsky in the high jump with a personal best of 6-1, Mark Jablunovsky in the long jump, Colin Smith in the discus, and the 1600 meter relay team consisting of John Jablunovsky, Hunter Carr, Maxx Oberley, and Aiden Brisendine with a season best time of 3:44.1. The Rams are now 5-4 in Section 8 and will return to Section 8 action on Monday at Derry.
The Ligonier Valley Girls' Track team split on Wednesday earning their second Section 8 victory of the 2023 season against Yough HS with a loss to Greensburg Central Catholic HS. The girls team defeated Yough High School earning 11 first place finishes and 9 second places. Girls team members earning first place honors were as follows: 3200m Relay (Adleigh Myers, Gabby Palmer, Mara Myers and Clara Wallace), 100m hurdles (Sydney Hoyman), 1600m Run (Mara Myers), 400m Relay (Mikayla Moore, Adleigh Myers, Jenny Galo and Allyson Steffey), 400m Dash (Katia Gunter), 800m Run (Clara Wallace), 1600m Relay (Adleigh Myers, Mara Myers, Sydney Hoyman and Mikayla Moore), Triple Jump (Jenny Galo), Pole Vault (Allyson Steffey) with a PR of 7-0, and Javelin (Kim Foust). Second place finishes against Yough HS for LV included 100m Dash (Allyson Steffey), 1600m Run (Gabby Palmer), 400m Dash (Clara Wallace), 300m Hurdles (Sydney Hoyman), 800m Run (Gabby Palmer), 200m Dash (Allyson Steffey), Long Jump (Ella Pierce), and Triple Jump (Ella Pierce). LV Girls also earned an additional 5 third place finishes on the track & in the field to fill out their final score of 87-53. The LV Girls team and coaching staff dedicated their performances tonight to honor the memory of their long standing and dedicated assistant coach, Dale Show, who passed away on Sunday 4-16-23. His dedication, valuable contributions and ongoing support for the Ligonier Valley Track & Field program is treasured and he will be greatly missed by all in the community.
